You have trapped the opossum. Now what?
You had a possum problem in your house. And before it became the possum's routine and got out of hand. You swiftly dealt with it. You laid traps with baits and caught it alive. But now you don't know what to do with it because you are not some nerdy guy interested in law. You have no idea about the restrictions regarding where and how can you release possums. You won't just let it be. It might have taken a liking to your house and come back. We don't want to happen, do we? These mammals are rotten smelly, and they have 6-10 babies in one litter for crying out loud. What is your house an animal breeding center? 

Wildlife Protection Law
The Wildlife Protection Law states that you are permitted to trap a possum. Don't get your hopes up just yet. It also says that you are not allowed to harm the animal in any way. The animal has to be released on the property it was captured and within 50 meters of the trapping location. So there you have. You went through all this trouble to give the poor, hungry possum a treat and then just let it go.

Wildlife Reserves
There is always a catch to laws. Although you can't release it far away from the property, you can take it to a wildlife reserve. It is a viable option. Even national parks work. But these places don't just pop up. And they most certainly aren't located in every city. So you might not have access to them.  Try to make your surroundings as less attractive for opossums as you can. Repair any broken fences and openings.
